With adults, Hillary uses her sensitivity to encourage and her enthusiasm to motivate the students to take their work to a higher level. Being self-taught in the very challenging and somewhat unforgiving medium of watercolors, she shares her successes and failures in a practical way guiding them to develop their own unique artistic voice. While strengthening the basic foundations of drawing skills, various watercolor techniques, keen observation and deliberate composition, she brings to each lesson a strong knowledge of subject, contagious enthusiasm, a passion for art and nature, and most important of all the ability to open their eyes to see the natural world around them in a whole new way.
With children, her classes are an adventure leading kids into the fascinating world of art history. Through field trips, the study of famous artists, artistic styles, and the exploration of different mediums, the children not only learn the appreciation of art but learn to appreciate the challenges and triumphs all artists face.
