As a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, Hillary competes throughout the year in Juried International Botanical Exhibitions. These shows bring together the top artists in their field from around the world and create exquisite botanical exhibits in museums, botanical gardens, The Horticultural Society of New York, The Royal Horticultural Society of London and the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society of Scotland. When time permits, she prepares for group and solo shows in galleries throughout the U.S. Hillary uses a meticulous and detailed approach to watercolors, creating fine art botanical watercolor paintings for juried international exhibitions around the world. Her paintings are both scientifically accurate and artistically expressive, beginning with countless hours of preparation for each piece that involves extensive research. She goes on location doing field work, spends time in botanical research libraries, and also works closely with botanists and horticulturalists in their greenhouses at various botanical gardens to gather a complete understanding of each plant.
